About ITC Flatiron
ITC Flatiron, an extended all cap headline font, was originally part of the diverse and stylish range of display type in the PhotoLettering collection at the company’s peak. This hand-drawn, Gothic face has uncharacteristic “mono-weighted” letterforms, so that the “O,” for example, is even on all sides. Deliberately expanded and wide, this face has an almost irreverent style. When it was acquired by ITC, it was named ITC Flatiron because of its flat, broad, almost structural quality (and as a homage to the Flatiron building in Manhattan). ITC’s director of typeface development, Ilene Strizver, describes ITC Flatiron’s appeal as a “refreshing counterbalance to the many condensed faces that have been in use lately. This very broad type is exciting, bold, and might very well be an indication of the next wave of design.“ |
