About ITC Quay Sans Medium Italic
London designer David Quay chose to base ITC Quay Sans on traditional Grotesque proportions, with the addition a slight increase x-height. To serve the purpose of simplicity, stroke weights have been kept optically even, although the design does not benefit from a subtle flaring of the vertical terminals. This not only relieves the visual monotony which can be caused by strict monoweight strokes, but also provides a firm baseline for reading ease. Quay studied graphic design at the Ravensbourne College of Art & Design. After graduation he worked in various London design studios until he became a freelance designer in 1975, specializing in lettering, logotype and graphic design. ITC Quay Sans is available in book, medium and black weights, each with a corresponding italic. |
