About ITC Underscript
In developing ITC Underscript, Claudio Rocha, a graphic designer in Sáo Paulo, Brazil, varied everything: letter height, baseline, width, and even letter form. Underscript is a handwritten, all-caps typeface that shows no contrast between thick and thin strokes; with its rounded ends and its slightly bulbous look, Underscript seems written with a fat felt-tip marker. Rocha uses the upper- and lowercase positions in the font to give alternate forms to every letter. In some cases, such as H and L, the difference is in width; in others, like D and B, it’s in height; in some, it’s simply the difference between one handwritten letter and another. Some of the letters are condensed in both variants, while others are expanded, so no matter which versions you use, the typeface has a unique rhythm. |
